Chinese chess grandmaster Ju Wenjun has once again proven her dominance in the world of chess by securing her fifth FIDE Women's World Chess Championship title this week, joining the ranks of the most decorated female players in history.

Who is Ju Wenjun?

Ju Wenjun, born on January 31, 1991, in Shanghai, China, is a renowned chess player known for her exceptional skills and strategic gameplay. She gained international recognition in 2018 when she won her first Women's World Chess Championship title.

Winning the Championship

The match, which lasted nine games showcased her extraordinary precision and stamina. With over 500 moves and 38 hours of intense play, Ju faced tough competition from Tan Zhongyi, who held her own with impressive performances, including a standout 98% accuracy in Game 8.

Throughout the match, both players displayed elite-level skill, especially in their opening choices. Tan’s consistent use of the Sicilian Defense kept the games dynamic and unbalanced, making for a highly tactical battle. Game 3, with its 87 moves and over five hours of play, was a critical turning point. It was here that Ju gained momentum after recovering from a loss in Game 2. 

Despite the challenging competition, Ju's consistency and superior precision, averaging 96.4% accuracy, ultimately carried her through.
